PROBEC helps eligible households and businesses understand the Federal Battery Rebate and choose suitable battery storage, with guidance through eligibility, system options and the installation process.
Turn the solar energy you generate into greater long-term savings. With the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, eligible households and businesses can reduce the upfront cost of installing a home battery. At PROBEC Solar, we’ll help you understand your options, check your eligibility, and guide you through the rebate process from start to finish.
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program makes home battery storage more accessible by reducing installation costs for eligible Australians. If you already have solar panels or you’re planning to install them, a battery can help you store excess electricity and use it when you need it most.
✔ Store excess solar power instead of exporting it to the grid.
✔ Reduce your reliance on grid electricity during the evening.
✔ Lower your ongoing electricity bills.
✔ Increase your home’s energy independence.
✔ Add backup power capability with compatible battery systems.
The Federal Battery Rebate is delivered through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). Rather than claiming the rebate yourself, an eligible installer applies the discount upfront, making the installation cost more affordable from the beginning.
The rebate amount varies depending on the battery size, installation details and the number of Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) available at the time of installation.
✔ Meet approved technical specifications.
✔ Comply with Australian safety standards.
✔ Be installed by an accredited installer.
✔ Satisfy all eligibility requirements under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
To receive the Federal Battery Rebate, the battery must have a minimum usable capacity of 5 kWh. This capacity is intended to provide practical energy storage that can support everyday household electricity use.
If you live in New South Wales, you may be able to access both Federal and State battery incentives, depending on your eligibility.
Before installing a battery, it’s worth checking:
✔ Current NSW battery incentive programs
✔ Federal rebate eligibility
✔ Approved battery products
✔ Installer accreditation requirements
Combining eligible incentives may help reduce your overall installation costs.
The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program supports eligible battery installations through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).
Here’s how it works:
Step 1 – Choose an eligible battery system.
Step 2 – Work with an accredited installer.
Step 3 – Your installer applies the available STC discount.
Step 4 – Enjoy lower upfront costs and greater energy savings over time.
The final rebate value depends on your battery’s eligible capacity and the current value of STCs when your system is installed.
Installing a home battery doesn’t have to be complicated. Whether you’re adding storage to an existing solar system or starting a new project, the PROBEC Solar team can help you make informed decisions with clear advice and expert support.
